Club aim for another smashing year

THE well-deserved summer break is over for Boyne Badminton Club and members are back playing twice a week in St Mary's DS – looking to improve on a memorable 2009/10 season.
One of the highlights was Boyne's strong representation on the Louth teams who won Grade 4 of the All-Ireland championship and Leinster Inter League.
Boyne's ladies team – Lorna Singleton, Briege Flood, Louise Irvine, Linda O'Connor and Joanne McElhinney – won the Louth Division 7 League and were runners-up in the Cup.
Matching their club colleagues, the Boyne men's team – consisting of Graham Singleton, Brian Cooling, Patrick O'Connell and Ronan Laverty – won the Dublin and THE County Louth Badminton Association league will start earlier than usual this season, and the deadline for the submission of teams is next Wednesday. If you'd like to join a local club or volunteer as a line judge for the forthcoming European Seniors tournament in Dundalk, contact details can be found at www.louthbadminton.com. District Division 7 league title.
Patrick O'Connell was named Louth Player and Boyne Players Personality of the Year, while Boyne Player of the Year was Graham Singleton and the Most Improved Player award went to Miroslaw Oltuszyk.
Winners of the club ladder competitions were Miroslaw Oltuszyk and Sylvain Pastor (men) and Laura Bonnar and Briege Flood (ladies).
Boyne Badminton Club reopened for the new season last Thursday and members meet every Monday and Thursday from 8 to 11pm at St Mary's DS, Drogheda. The club is keen to bolster its adult team to improve competition for places.
There is also a junior section for children aged eight to 16, run under the guidance of experienced coaches Jim Callan and Anne Marie Nolan, and registration for the junior club will take place in the St Mary's DS gym on Thursday September 23rd at 7pm.
