Howard's way too good
Wednesday February 24 2010
LOUTH'S female athlete of the year Pamela Howard made a great start to 2010 by winning the fifth round of the Track Winter League at ALSAA last week.
In a field of 18, Howard – a student at St Pat's teacher training college in Drumcondra – marked his first competitive race with victory over the onemile distance, ably supported by Drogheda and District clubmate Nuala Reilly.
In the Men's race, Danny Skeffington ground out third place in a hard-fought battle with the top four athletes, and Drogheda's other representatives were David Quinn whose flying finish took him up to fifth, and Paul Smith (seventh).
An additional 'B' race also took place, and here Drogheda were well represented with Gerard O'Connor (3rd), Conor Cooney (6th), Shay Clarke (9th), Declan Monaghan (11th) and Barney Flannery further back. Christy Duffy also featured in the nowadays almost extinct Lourdes AC colours.
