ARDEE and District AC held their annual sports day in the Boys School field on Sunday last and there was a great turnout of athletes from all clubs, far and near – with plenty of local success.

Andrew Coscoran from Star of the Sea AC had a great showing, taking victory in the U-15 100 and 800m events, while his brother Harry also took a lastgasp victory in the Under-14 shot putt to round off a fine day for the club.

There was considerable success for the young Dunleer AC athletes on the track. In the boys under-10 sprint final, Ronan Sands was a very good silver medallist, following this up with a bronze medal performance in the 200m. Kevin Ledwith had great outings at 100m where he finished second and 800m where he claimed another silver.

Shane Cheshire added silver in the 800m under-14 to his long list of achievements, while his sister Emma was victorious over 800m under-11 and second in the 100m sprint.

The relay teams brought home silver for the girls' 4 x 100m under-11 team while the boys under-11s were also in the medals with a third placing.

Continuing the local success, St.Peters AC athletes Mark Rogers and Caoilte Hickey both performed well in the Under15 events, with Mark taking silver in the 800m and bronze in the 100m, while Caoilte won silver in the 100m.

Pádraic McGinn has really impressed this season and once again, he did not disappoint in Ardee, with a fine silver in the Under 14 shot putt, throwing a PB of 8.14m.

Boyne AC's best performer on the day was definitely Amy McTeggagrt, who took victory in both the girls under-15 100m and 800m events.

This event provided good preparation for those competing in next weekend's national Community Games in Athlone, with a number of local athletes down to represent Louth.
