Locals turn out for 10 Mile event

LAST Saturday, August 21st, saw in the second of the build up races in the run up to this year's Dublin Marathon. The Frank Duffy 10 Mile was run in glorious sunshine in the Phoenix Park at and a large group of runners from Drogheda and District AC made the trip to represent the club for this event. This race has been growing rapidly in popularity in the last few years from a field of just over 2000 entries in 2007 this years field of 6400.

Among them was a Drogheda and District AC crew of over 20, many of them new members eager to put all the training in Meadowview to use.

The result of the day came from the youngest member of the club 18 year old Niall Kierans who ran a fantastic time of 01:05:15 and winning the junior male category in the process.

This is a fantastic result for Rathmullen man who continues to go from strength to strength across short and long distances.

And from the youthful to the seasoned athlete, Drogheda and District's most experienced runner Jim Leonard conuinued on from the fine performance in the five mile race to finish the 10 mile course in a time of 01:48:51 and placing 4th in the Over 70s category

Other notable results on the day came from Pamela Howard who ran 01:14:38 and placed 37th in the senior female category.

While newbe Ciara O'Reilly ran a personal best over the distance of 01:22:26 and placing 126th in the Senior Female category. Marathon man Gerard Fay ran another personal best over the distance coming in at 01:41:42 beating his previous time over 10 miles by 17 minutes.
