McTeggart Combined Events joy
LAST Sunday Mark Rogers and Niamh Fussey from St Peter's AC were in action in the Leinster Combined Events' Championships in Navan.
Both were contesting the underage Pentathlon events, which involve competing in the 80m Hurdles, Long Jump, Shot Putt, High Jump and 800m in a single day.
Mark won gold in the Under-15 event but was pushed all the way by the opposition, as he emerged victorious by a narrow margin of 14 points.
His excellent personal best performance in the High Jump, in which he cleared 1.76m, was a major factor in ensuring his well-deserved win.
He had also won the corresponding Under 14 title in 2009.
Niamh was just outside the medals in the Under-16 event. When her points were tallied at the end of the day, it emerged that she had finished in fourth place, one position better than last season.
Boyne AC athlete Amy McTeggart is celebrating, though, after winning gold in the Under-15 competition.
Amy competed in the Hurdles, Long Jump, Shot putt, High Jump, and 800m, all on the same day.
She won the High Jump with a jump of 1m 51cm, and was in the lead going into the final event, the 800m, which she also won very comfortably. Amy's clubmate Niamh Kelly, competing in her first combined event competition, finished third in the Under-14 age group. -Carl Dunne of Dunleer AC has been invited to compete at the prestigious Ballyfin AC Cross-Country Races in Laois on September 18th.
The club's junior men's team will also compete, along with the juvenile teams, under-11, under-13 and boys under-15.
