WITH two teams from Our Lady's College left in the running for basketball honours this season, they both traveled to Kings Hospital School in Palmerstown last to play semi finals. First up was the first year Minor A side. Playing in Division 1, this team has improved throughout the year and had rightfully found itself competing for a final placing. The opposition was St Dominic's of Cabra.

A slight change of tactics on the day saw Sarah McGuinness take control of the point guard spot and she did not disappoint. McGuinness successfully fed Amy McTeggart the ball on the left wing and the guard ran in some easy lay-ups.

However, St. Dominic's were equal to the task and only a single basket separated the side at the first break, the 'College' leading 10-8.

Quarter two was the turn of a different five players and Michelle McAllister was in sparkling form, scoring seven points, while Roisin Kavanagh was hitting 100% from the free throw line. The Boynesiders were now leading 19-10.

Our Lady's upped their defence in the second half and Cabra failed to score a single point, while Hannah Boylan, Alivia Nesser and Roisin Daly were all getting themselves on the score sheet for Our Lady's.

Amy McTeggart was unstoppable on the day and finished as top scorer, hitting 16 points for her team, the final score 32-10. Their final will be in the National Basketball Arena next Tuesday.

The second team to play on the day was the second year, Junior A side, playing in the Premier Division. Their opposition was Colaiste Bride, from Clondalkin.

A slow start, with some easy chances let slip, saw them down 8-2 at the break. Quarter two was improved, with captain Brona Fanning getting in on the action, and they only trailed 13-6 at the half-time interval.

Quarter three all but sealed the game for Clondalkin, though, as their experience at this level started to have an impact . With a semi final place at stake, the 'College' girls were not giving 25-8 heading into the final quarter.

Our Lady's wouldn't give up without a fight and Katie Anne Holdcroft, Roisin Dyas, Michelle Moore and a couple from Fanning saw the team claw their way back into the game.

However, it was too little too late and the final whistle went with the score board reading 27-18 in favor of Colaiste Bride.
