Quinn off to a flier at airport

Wednesday February 17 2010

MARTIN Quinn of Dunleer AC continued his great crosscountry season with a magnificent win over five miles in the senior section of the Business Houses Aer Lingus races at ALSAA on Saturday.

Quinn clocked 26 minutes 53 seconds to finish as the clear winner, with clubmate David Carrie second in his Masters category.

Both athletes are working towards producing their best at the forthcoming Rás na hEireann Cross-Country International at Oldbridge, and Quinn will be back in action next weekend in Boyle, Co Roscommon where he competes in the Intermediate National Cross-Country Championship.

Back at ALSAA, Drogheda and District AC veteran Nuala Reilly helped her Health team again take first place, while her clubmates Gerry Mullen, Conor Cooney and Knut Neilsen (Fingal County Council) were the fourth team in grade C.

Frank McCarthy and Barney Flannery stormed in slightly further back, but the unfortunate Liam Cooney – running in the top 20 – pulled up with a mile to go due to the recurrence of an old injury. - Dunleer athlete Tomas Cotter finished third at the Iowa State Indoor 3K with a new PB of 8:35.88, knocking a full 21 seconds off his previous best indoors.
