STAMULLEN M Donnelly RC riders filled three of the top eight places in Sunday's Betty D'Arcy Memorial Cycle Race, promoted by Slipstream CC in Gorey.

This was an 80km race contested over four laps of a local circuit and was open to Senior A2 and A3 category riders.

Half-way around the first lap, an 11man break went clear and quickly built up a comfortable lead on the main field.

And on the final lap, Javan Nulty from Stamullen and Brian Geraghty from the Murphy Surveyors club in Kilcullen broke clear of this leading breakaway group and on the uphill sprint to the finish line, Nulty was clearly the strongest, easily taking the victory from Geraghty.

Another Stamullen man, Gary Gorman, finished 30 seconds adrift in third place and teammate Frank O'Connor was eighth.

Sunday's success augurs well for the club, as next Sunday Comeragh CC in Waterford promote the Talk Talk All-Ireland A2 Senior Road Race Championship which will be contested over a distance of 100km and hopes are high for a success in the individual and team honours.

Some of the locals riders who will be among the favourites for a medal include the aforementioned Gary Gorman and Conor Campbell (Drogheda Wheelers).
