DUNLEER AC coach Geraldine Finegan proved yet again her remarkable all-round talent as she scooped 13 individual medals over the last two weekends in Nenagh. First up at the Tipperary venue was the National Senior Indoor Combined Events Championships, where the veteran athlete amassed 2,673 points in the 60m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put and 800m to claim silver behind Claire McNamara (Athenry).
The following day Finegan won a hat-trick of golds, thanks to a 2:31.23 800m run, 1:05.6 in the 400 and a 4.36m long jump, plus silver in the shot.
Dunleer colleagues Mickey Linden and Earl Taylor were also in action on that day, with Linden claiming the Over-45 60m title with a superb time of 7.5 seconds and taking bronze in the 200m (25.68sec). Taylor was third in the Over-60 men's long jump.
Finegan's run of success didn't end there and she returned to Nenagh on Sunday last for the Leinster Senior Indoor Championships.
A terrific shot put of 10.49m saw her claim gold in that event, while she won silver in the triple jump, 200, 400 and 800m and bronze in the 60m hurdles, long jump and high jump.
Meanwhile, as the countdown begins to the Rás na hEireann International CrossCountry at Oldbridge on February 28th, Dunleer AC have confirmed that Coca-Cola and Beverage Business Solutions will once again be the title sponsors of the event.
The Coca Cola Rás na hÉireann has a programme of races for boys and girls from Under-9 to 19, a special schools race, junior and senior races for men and women, plus masters races and a Fit4Life 2km for men and women.
Élite athlete co-ordinator Charles Breagy has been busy assembling a field for the Men's and Women's Inter-national races. Teams from Finland, Poland and the USA have already confirmed participation, with Scotland and England to announce athletes. Among the Irish are Thomas Chamney and Sean Connolly. •Dunleer's Kieron Kelly ran Sunday's Raheny five-mile road race in 26:18, while clubmate James Rothwell completed the course in 27:40.
