Mixed fortunes

THERE was mixed fortunes for the two locals named on the Ireland team for last Friday's clash with the Barbarians at Thomond Park.
Niall Ronan marked only his third full international with a try, but Shane Horgan had to withdraw from the game because of a stomach complaint and didn't travel to New Zealand with the rest of the squad last Saturday.
Ireland were trailing 21-3 on the stroke of half-time when Ronan used a great angle to take Ronan O'Gara's inside pass and run in under the posts.
The score galvanised the Irish for a spell, but a third Barbarians try gave their hosts too much to do and the match ended 29-23 in the tourists' favour.
