Age is no barrier to Town side

U-17/18 FARRELL CUP SWORDS ROV U-18.........0 DROGHEDA TOWN U-17..5

Wednesday March 10 2010

THIS impressive performance in the NDSL Mary Farrell Knockout Cup saw Drogheda Town Under-17s advance to the next round of the competition.

However, the score masks the fact that the older Swords side were right in this fiercelycontested game until having their keeper sent off mid-way through the second half.

A 25-yard low drive by Daniel Darby put Town ahead in the first half and unsettled Swords, and 10 minutes from the break Jason Rath was unlucky not to double their tally .

Both teams upped the tempo in the second half, but it remained 1-0 until Karl Tuite get on the end of a great pass and looked certain to score, until the Swords keeper brought him down, leaving the referee with no choice but to show him the red card. David Cunningham stepped up and scored from the spot.

The home side fell apart after that and it wasn't long before Ciaran Curran took advantage and made it 3-0 for the visitors. Darby then scored two more goals to complete his hat-trick.
