Bermingham at double for Boys

DROGHEDA Boys had the majority of possession in this Under-8B game, but excellent defending by Tolka made it difficult to convert possession into goals.
The home side always seemed to have a player close enough to hurry their players as chances fell to Sean Collier, Sean Maguire, Con Sheehan and Cian Leavy and the match remained scoreless at half-time.
In the second half the Drogheda lads were becoming increasingly anxious to get off the mark and this led to some slack marking in their defence. The home side took advantage of this when a Drogheda attack broke down and Tolka scored on the breakaway.
However, Drogheda kept their cool, reasserted themselves and were rewarded 10 minutes into the half with a penalty kick for a push on Adam Boyle. Cian Leavy skilfully placed the spot kick perfectly in the corner of the net.
Then, five minutes later, Drogheda finally took the lead when a piledriver from Brandan Bermingham gave the excellent Tolka goalkeeper no chance.
Bermingham then sealed victory for the away side with his second goal five minutes from time when he managed to curl a corner kick directly into the net.
