Bull keep up charge for title
BLACK Bull continued their push for promotion with this comfortable victory over Kells Blackwater at a windswept Grange Rath on Sunday.
Playing against a strong wind in the first half, the Bull were outclassed in the opening exchanges and fell behind on 18 minutes to a stunning 20yard strike which flew past Bull keeper Alan Sweeney.
The Bull endured an anxious few minutes after the goal, before midfielders John Gallagher and Eoin Hancock got a stranglehold and they were denied three times in quick succession as Charlie Egan, Guy Bates and Gallagher saw goal-bound efforts saved by the Kells keeper.
Bull finally got the goal their pressure deserved when Gallagher coolly converted a spot kick just before half time after Egan had been brought down.
The hosts continued to dominate in the second period and after Gallagher was denied by a brilliant save by the Kells netminder, centre back Joey Smith rose highest to head home an Ian Mccullen corner.
The hosts then killed off the game as a contest when Bates beat the offside trap before rounding the keeper to put the home side 3-1 in front, before Shane Walsh scored the goal of the match with 20 minutes left following good link play with Mark Gibbons.
Sub Stephen Murray had a great chance to get his name on the scoresheet but fluffed his effort straight at the keeper with the goal at his mercy.
With the away side totally demoralised Bull grabbed a fifth goal in the final minute through David Gallagher.
Best for the Bull were Gallagher, Smith and Egan. BLACK BULL: A Sweeney, D Heeney, J Smith, B Byrne, N Black, I Mccullen, J Gallagher, E Hancock (S Murray), S Walsh (D Gallagher), G Bates (M Gibbons), C Egan.
