A REJUVENATED Drogheda United will attempt to knock champions Bohemians down a peg or two when they host Pat Fenlon's men at the newlytitled Hunky Dorys Park on Friday (7.45pm).
The Boynesiders put their opening-night defeat by UCD behind them with a much more promising performance on Sunday at Dundalk, where they were on course for victory until Michael Daly's red card handed the home side a lifeline and the game ended 2-2.
Manager Alan Mathews said yesterday: 'The sendingoff had a huge impact because they scored straight after it, and I think Daly was very harshly treated. A commonsense approach would've ensured he stayed on the pitch.
'We were disappointed with our performance against UCD, but the players took responsibility and responded.
'We had a positive attitude from the off and showed we are capable of being a lot better than we showed previously, and our attitude from start to finish was spot on.
'But that game is gone now and we have to think about Bohs, the best team in the league. It's important we press them when we don't have the ball, and when we do we need to keep it well and get shots on goal. We're not geared to sit in and invite teams onto us and hit them on the break.'
Corie Treacy will definitely miss out, after hospital tests for a head injury sustained against Dundalk, but he could be fit for next week's game at Sporting Fingal. Daly is suspended, but back from onematch bans come Eric McGill and Paul Crowley.
Bohs were in league action at UCD last night ( Tuesday).
Drogheda United's postponed Leinster Senior Cup tie away to St Pat's will now take place next Monday, and they will host Bray twice in the space of seven days after being drawn against the Seagulls in the EA Sports Cup first round.
The tie will take place on April 12th/13th, with the same teams also scheduled to meet in the league on April 5th.
