It's third time lucky for Boyne's Under-16s

Wednesday January 25 2012

BOYNE Rovers' NDSL Under16B team picked up their first point against Malahide at the third time of asking in this league clash at St Joseph's CBS on Sunday.

Mals had won both previous meetings, but this time Boyne started the better and after five minutes Alan Murphy had a very good effort saved by the away side's keeper.

Four minutes later Alan Murphy supplied a beautifully weighted cross which was met by Eric Rooney who volleyed into the right-hand corner.

Boyne continued to press and went very close with efforts from Conor Black, Murphy and Rooney, and with five minutes to go before half-time Dean Fallon laid on a lovely ball which forced the Malahide keeper into bringing off a very good save.

After half-time Boyne had another chance after a lovely cross from Murphy, but none of his colleagues were on hand to convert it.

Malahide began to take an upper hand at this stages, and although they did not threaten the Boyne goal too often the visitors had much the better possession.

Still, Boyne held on to their slender lead until seven minutes from time when Mals grabbed what was a deserved equaliser on the balance of play. BOYNE ROVERS: Shane Hoey, Conor Black, Jake Kelly, AJ Kelly, Daniel Nelis, Andrew Newman, Shane Lesley, Kieran Mcloone, Alan Murphy, Ryan O'dowd, Dean Fallon, Jordan Branigan, Eric Rooney.
