A LAST-GASP winner against EMU in Townparks on Sunday morning helped Ardee Wasps secure top spot in the U-11 Premier Division. Windy conditions led to a very scrappy match, with very few clear cut chances at either end. The visitors put in a strong performance in the first half with the wind behind them. Ardee defenders Jack Duffy and David Closkey had to work hard to keep a determined East Meath side at bay.
The pendulum swung in Ardee's favour after the restart, yet the home side struggled to get any return from their possession.
Lorcan Malone almost found a breakthrough mid-way through the second half when he got into a one-on-one situation, only to be denied by the keeper. The Deesiders had an even better opportunity to go ahead after being awarded a penalty when Eolann Aiken was brought down in the box. However, the spot kick went wide and the game looked set to end in stalemate.
The introduction of Aaron Devlin and Aaron McCabe up front in the dying minutes gave the Wasps some badly-needed fresh legs and helped the home side gain a late corner. Mikey Kelly delivered into a crowded area and Evan Keenan reacted quickest to drive the ball home and earn his side all three points. ARDEE CELTIC: Eolann Aiken, Aaron Carolan, David Closkey, Dion Conlon, Shane Crossan, Aaron Devlin, Jack Duffy, Killian Farrell, Shane Farrell, Evan Keenan, Michael Kelly, Aaron McCabe, John McMahon, Lorcan Malone, Brendan Mathews.
