LEADERS Kells/Blackwater tasted defeat in the league for the first time as St Laurence's Gate boosted their promotion credentials on Sunday.
The Drogheda men deservedly took the lead when an excellent team move was finished off by captain Daryl Carolan, but almost immediately they handed Kells an equaliser in sloppy fashion.
With Richie Dooley driving them on, Gate restored their advantage when Jason O'Boyle's brilliant cross was dispatched superbly to the net by top scorer Jason Johnston.
The visitors went close to adding to their lead early in the second half, but the league front-runners found another gear in the last 10 minutes and it took some great defending to safeguard all three points.
