Promoted side's winning start
TWO divisions separated these sides last season, but Chord sprung a surprise by picking up full points in their opening Division 2 clash of the new campaign at Meadowview on Sunday.
The promoted club had to do it the hard way, twice coming from behind before finishing with a flourish.
Bohermeen scored first with a penalty after a foul by keeper Keith Fox, but 10 minutes later Shane Lowney was upended in the box and Damien Judge held his nerve to equalise from the spot at the second attempt.
The visitors regained the upper hand before half-time, making it 2-1 after springing Chord's offside trap.
But it was all about the Drogheda side in the second half, inspired by a superb equaliser by Kenneth Thornton who took the ball on a 40-metre run, beating a number of defenders before slotting home.
Lowney then gave Chord a deserved lead following good work by Ciaran Garry, Thornton and Danny Gartland, before Thornton went on to net the insurance goal from the edge of the penalty area. CHORD CELTIC squad: Keith Fox, Darren Kelly, Andrew Garry, Danny Gartland, Damien Judge, Darragh Traynor, Ciaran Garry, Kenneth Thornton, Shane Lowney, Mark Brannigan, Jason McKenna, Paul Kierans, Johnny Rogers.
