Quay finish off with a bonanza
SQUARE United slumped to their 11th defeat of the season, having led this Premier Division game - and now need a near-miracle to avoid the drop.
As in other games this season the failed to last the pace after battling away to erase a half-time deficit, Quay cutting loose with three goals in the closing 18 minutes.
Quay were without two of their more talented players, Stefan Mckevitt and Colin Finan, who seem keen to show Dundalk manager Sean Mccaffrey what they can do after previous spells at Oriel Park.
As a result the visitors could only call on 12 players, but loan sub Niall Donnelly made a telling contribution, scoring twice to seal victory.
Alan Kirk had put Square ahead in the opening five minutes with a thumping free kick, but Quay struck back with two goals in a five-minute spell. Ryan Dillon stabbed home from near the penalty spot as Chris Mullen pulled it back after a darting run down the side of the box. Then Andrew Duffy crashed a free kick from 22 yards to the home net.
However, Square responded straightaway, Robbie Leavy sending a drive from the edge of the box into the net - 2-2.
They weren't level for long, though, as Ryan Dillon set up Gary Clarke who punished some slack defending by restoring Quay's lead.
Square pushed strongly for an equaliser in the third quarter, but without success, and after striker Paudie Hearty scorned a clear opportunity for Quay, they made their next attack count as Gavin Donnelly won a tackle on the edge of the Square box, bounced up, went past two players and shot into the bottom corner of the net.
This setback drained the spirit from Square, and Donnelly was put in by Duffy, before Hearty chipped keeper Padraig Malone for 6-2.
