Town disappoint after long Christmas break
MALAHIDE netted the winner on the counter-attack as Drogheda Town's NDSL Under-16a team made a very disappointing return to action after the long Christmas break.
Conor Smith and Andy Bone worked hard at the back and Smith made one timely intervention to put off the Malahide striker as he lined up a shot.
A push in the back earned Drogheda a free kick, but once again they were unable to convert and Mals soon broke the deadlock with a brilliant strike that gave goalkeeper Nathan Murray no chance.
Drogheda were much improved in the second half and had a number of chances to equalise, before the breakthrough came.
Another Broughton free kick which was on target was fumbled by the Malahide goalkeeper and Andy Sullivan latched onto the loose ball and slot it to the empty net.
Drogheda dominated the game after that and should have taken advantage of the opportunities which came their way, but it was the home side who had the final say.
