UNITED'S League of Ireland opener against UCD is one of two big Friday night games involving local clubs as Drogheda Town travel to Tolka Rovers in the last eight of the FAI Intermediate Cup.

Alan Kelly's team are the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, but they're only 10 places behind Tolka in the Leinster Senior League ladder and will fancy their chances of an upset.

It's a particularly interesting showdown for Town captain Martin Cummins, who spent six years with Tolka earlier in his career.

Looking ahead to the game, the 35-year-old defender said: 'It's great to have the chance to pit our wits against a top club, and brilliant to go back to the club I was at before.

'Probably half the team are still there from when I was playing, and it's poignant that the lad who was playing rightback when I was centre-half is now the manager of the team.

'So you could say that there's a bit of an edge to the game!'

Tolka, who are mid-table in the Senior Division, will be hot favourites to advance to the semi-finals, but Town are in a rich vein of form and have only lost two of their 16 Division 1 games to date.

'Based on the fact that it's a one-off game and confidence is high, we have a very good chance of turning them over.

'There's a chance that the boys might get a bit nervous, but I don't think them having home advantage is something we're worried about. We've played equally well at home and away this season.

'We're training two nights a week, with at least 14 guys turning up, and the training with Alan and Pete Brennan is very good. They put a bit of work into training before the session.'

Town have already qualified for the first round of the FAI Senior Cup, the draw for which is yet to be made.
